Debts are mind and money-consuming monsters that can prevent you from living a more secured life, financially speaking. However, if you are not yet in debt right now, here are the things you can do to prevent them from coming into the picture.
Build an emergency fund. You don’t know when life will play a trick on you and you don’t want to be caught off guard either. Your emergency fund will handle these circumstances and prevent you from taking unnecessary loans from people or the bank.
Create a budget. The budget will help you build a more realistic view of your finances. If you go over the budget, you will likely need to borrow in order to keep with your bills and other expenses. Your budget should acknowledge how much you make, how much you need to spend and how much you can save.
Pay the bills as they come. Your credit card bills grow with interest so it is best to always pay them on time and ideally in full. Making minimum payments may keep the collectors off, but the interest continues to grow.
Do not spend more than you can afford. If you have the money, then you can afford it. But if you are spending food money for shoes, then you’re totally ruining your finances. Keep your priorities in order and think of your purchases wisely.
